Igokat Dance Company was founded in Lausanne in 2007 under the artistic impulse of Igor Piovano, former principal dancer, ballet master and rehearsal director with the Béjart Ballet Lausanne.

For many years, Igor Piovano worked alongside Maurice Béjart, whose artistic world, uncompromising standards and vision of dance profoundly shaped his own journey as an artist.

After this exceptional experience alongside one of the great masters of 20th-century dance, one thing became clear: it was time to create.

To create a dance that reflects who he is. A dance that is sincere, free and accessible. A dance that can tell stories, stir emotions and raise questions.

It is from this vision that Igokat Dance Company has grown.

At the crossroads of classical and contemporary dance, the company has developed its own choreographic language over the years — a language shaped by contrasts, unexpected shifts, energy and emotion.

Technical virtuosity is never an end in itself. It becomes a means of expression, serving the story and creating a genuine connection with the audience.

Igokat’s creations draw their inspiration from the world around us, society, human relationships, our fears, our dreams and our contradictions.

Since its beginnings, the company has brought together dancers from a wide range of backgrounds and nationalities — from Switzerland and Italy to Belgium and the United States — making this diversity an essential part of its artistic identity.
